This is wonderful, and exactly what brought me to substack. I want to foster and encourage the “scary” skill of sewing clothes, but I don’t necessarily want to offer “lessons”. I will be picking your brain and following along! Thank you SO much for sharing!!!
This is wonderful! I work at a university and advise a student club focused on creating a thrifting space on campus and I’ll point them to this post as something we should make space for!
I loved the idea of mending together💙 I’d love to arrange an event with my friends in Istanbul. Do you have a suggestion for people who’d be interested to host and to come to such event? As you’ve written in your manifesto, it would be so nice to learn and start from others’ experience.
Thats a great idea! I'd start by reaching out to friends and see if you know anyone that would want to try out a gathering with you, and bring some basic materials with you for folks to practice on
Good question! I was hosting it through a business that did other sustainable events that was run by someone else primarily and that business was merged with a nonprofit here in brooklyn called Fabscrap! So they will now host some mending related events that i'm sure i'll volunteer at, but I don't have the same regular physical space or structure anymore.

Ok LOVE this! So excited to bring mending club back (renamed: Craft Night) every second Tuesday of the month starting in 2025!

But why did mending club end??

I'll probably get back to hosting my own at some point regularly, but I also started compiling a list of every regularly occurring mending club around the world I could find here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JHt6Q7cVlIpTjow3GmOxQvzdVBD5F_c-GaU2HyZUM-E/edit?usp=sharing) - and there's two others in NYC that I can point people to
