"It will take longer than amazon but I promise it will also be more fun."

Words I live by!

This is so helpful. I bought a darning foot a year ago and for some reason haven't used it yet. You've inspired me!

The inner thighs are always the first part of my pants to go and I find this approach indispensable! I often hand-baste a fabric patch on the inside with a high-contrast thread colour that I can unpick afterwards. I learned by just using a regular sewing foot with feed dogs up and sewing in big sweeping zig-zigs to cover the area. I can see how much more control you'd have with your method - I'll definitely consider investing in a free-motion foot.

Oo that’s a good way to do this with less materials!

This tutorial is perfect!!!! My favorite jeans have been sitting in my "to be fixed" pile since fall and I will be going to my local store to get this magical foot tomorrow. I'm so excited! Thank you Danielle :)

Love this tutorial! I’ve been needing this for all the torn and ripped work shorts my partner has. Do you think this could work for a stretch rib cotton pant? I have these stretchy loose-ish lounge pants that have worn in the crotch and bum but don’t know how to repair stretch fabric 🧐

hmm I think for a small hole on a stretch fabric it could be ok, but I would be concerned about the fusibile interfacing since that usually doesn't have any stretch to it. I've never used it, but it does look like knit fusible interfacing exists, so that could be a good thing to get! Or you could place a scrap of fabric underneath that has a similar amount of stretch as the pants and sew around the hole with a zig-zag stitch. Good luck!

Thanks for your response! I think the fabric patch might be the go. Just find another pair of my partner’s work pants in the mend pile that will be perfect for a machine darn! 🙌🏼

Now I have to find out how to lower my feed dogs. I recently did a hybrid patch / darn on a pair of jeans by going back and forth using the forward and reverse switch. This looks much easier.
